A little birdie whispered to me that I would not be “happy” with where Fireman is positioned in the section lineup in TRIBE. Apparently the order of sections has already been decided and Fireman is closer to the back of the band, much closer to being last than I am comfortable with! Seeing as the hubby and I are in different sections I was mainly concerned about how far would Fireman be from Warrior Spirit. I was further informed that if I wanted to be close to Warrior Spirit I would have to be in Cow Mas, Jab Molassie or Dragon. By the way, I did not get the full line up, only hints, I know Warrior Spirit is not the first section of the band (too big for that) nor is Dragon in the top 5! Please, do not ask me if I know where your section is placed, frankly I am way too disturbed by being in the back of the band than to concern myself with where any other section is placed!
Now I know the general consensus with band leaders is that it does not matter which section is first or last, other people think that the entire band is all-inclusive with “only” 3500 people so it’s not like the section is in the back of Poison with 50,000 masqueraders and I do not even need to stay in my section. Other points where made that we will not be crossing a stage this year so being in the back and having that wait is a moot point others think being in the back is ideal because you are closer to the pee pee trucks! Well, in all my years of playing mas I have been spoilt.
I have never played in a section that is last or almost last. With Harts it was always the all female section, led by Wendy Fitzwilliams which was either the first section or the very least in the top five. One year I played in a mixed section and was somewhere in the middle and did not like it too much though after we crossed the stage we were all one big mélange of masqueraders anyway. With Poison I was in the middle of the band the first year while my other friends were with Pleasures Carnival to the front, well needless to say I never saw them that year, being in the middle of that band was like being LAST!! Poison was the first band I saw which had section 1 and section 1 A so if you were in section 5 B you were really the 11th section!!!! The second time with Poison I felt more at home being first with Sonia Mack and had a great experience.
The sad fact is one section has to be last, but to be honest with you I think the order should be done according to which sections are more popular judged by the fact of how well they sold. I mean, Fireman is a very popular section, one I am sure would be photographed a lot and I hope the powers at be in TRIBE rethink the decision to stick the section to the back of the band; that spot should be reserved for Bat which is yet to sell out!! To be fair Warrior Spirit should be first, seeing as they were the first to sell out, but since that section is way too massive, maybe Dragon should get that top spot, followed by the other sections that were sold out in record time. I know that the band leaders probably do not want “colours clashing” but Fireman is one of only two all red sections how hard would it be to move the section up a bit, a little closer to Warrior Spirit perhaps?
So I was utterly disturbed by that news, and yes I am not happy! At this moment I am praying to the Carnival Gods that by some miracle Fireman would be saved from being in the bowels of the band. I do not like it the back, never mind I have yet to try it; to me it is just not the natural order of how things should be. Give it to me to the front or even in the middle and I am quite pleased. Yes, I know some of you probably like it in the back and don’t care one way or the other, all you care about is just being in the band. On that note I was at TRIBE’s mas camp yesterday when a young Asian girl, speaking stilted English, walks into the camp and asks for a costume. She was directed to take a look at the two sections which were still open, Bat and Pierrot Grenade frontline her response was just sign her up! Yup, the girl did not give either costume so much as a minute once-over she simply said either one, did not matter. In the end she went with Pierrot Grenade but that was only because it was impressed upon her to make a choice, she later admitted that she played in green last year so Bat was out. I get the feeling though if Bat were the only section open she would have taken it! See, that is the sort of masquerader that should be in the back, one who does not spend months obsessing over a costume!!
Forget the Digicel cell phone in the goody bag and my call for Monday wear TRIBE, I am resubmitting my Christmas/Birthday wish list and all I really want is for Fireman to be moved a little further to the front, please. That is not too much to ask seeing as TRIBE is all about making their masqueraders happy now is it?

lol lol lol saucy yuh killin meh. But I share the same feelings. I have played with Poison for the last 5 years and I always played in the first 5 sections....always. So usually I pick the best costume out of the first five. Now that I'm playing with another band, it's the same thing. I jus like to be in the front of the band.

Sauce...I'm with you on that one. The thought of being at the back of the band is not appealing to me at all. Don't know what they were thinking of when they did that. Hope it is not true, or they reconsider.
wow, i didnt know that the location of your section is such a BIG deal...I've been in the front, middle, Part 1B, and the back and don't see what the big deal is..Once my drinks truck don't run out of meh johnny and the music truck don't break down, IM ALL GOOD!
I can't wait to get to TNT, NY is too damn cold right about now...Time for some sun and a cold STAG!
I doh want to be in the back either but I go be real mad if they switch your section with my section and I end up in the back!!
Another point is that sections are lined up according to size and the number of trucks. You can't put warrior spirit and a next big section like jab molassie right next to each other. The music truck will never be able to provide music for the two sections. You go be in front your section and can't hear anything.
Also trends have shown that there is some alignment to djs with certain section leaders.
Then you have to study colours, orange and red will never be right next to each other.Then its what the Tribe has in mind in terms of overall presentation.
My section was 7 last year and it was a good place to be..I certainly don't want to be anywhere ore than 10th.

saucy gyal i wid you on this one. i am really not comfortable with being in the back. i much rather if not first then maybe 3rd or 5th but not last or next to last.
about a week and a half for me. i can't wait to see my family. my wish is to have a safe and happy carnival. have a great HUMP day all.

Saucy, you're such a big baby! I've played in front, back and all in between and don't care either way beacuse once we get off the stage, everything mix up anyway! Nowadays, I tend to lime at the front of the band, but only becasue the b/f Jumbie prefers to be close to the tassa band (he's very cautious about getting close to those ear-splitting music trucks).
I was going to say that as long as I have a nice costume, I don't care where I play, but even that isn't the case. I've played mas in costumes I thought were downright hideous and had a ball regardless. As long as I'm in the band, drink in mih hand, Jumbie at my side, I'm happy!
As a Carnival Virgin, I am none the wiser about where I stand when it comes to this matter. That said, I've heard enough setbacks with Carnival (no Savannah, no stands for Carnival, crime). So, for me, I doh really care either. I probably won't stay in my section anyhow - in fact right now ah tryin to switch costumes (doubt it would happen, tho). As long as I get the experience of jumpin up in a band, I'm good. (Basically regurgitating what squeezle said lol)...
Offhand, I'd say that I am certain that the most popular section in this band WILL NOT be pushed to the back, but then again, this is the Carnival Virgin talking... I guess we'll just have to wait and see
P.S - Imp is one of the least popular sections of the band I'm sure, so, at least you shouldn't end up behind us...

But if thats the case do what i do...Jump all over the band..even on the "Stage" i dont ever stay in dsection..I pay too much damn $$ to stay in yuh section. I knw the back section sucks real bad as I too have experienced it in the past with Poison talk bout Pressure!!! so to get over it i usually start from the front of the band and during the day move in the band accordingly..once yuh pay yuh damn $$ nobody cyar tell u where to jump in de band cause as far as i'm concerned it's the same band its not like ah storming another band

well is either yuh doh care at all or yuh want to be in front. I eh hear nobody say they WANT the back. So if EVERYBODY want to be in front (cause we send all who doh care in the back) then some of us will unavoidably be disappointed.As long as it not me , i good lolol.

I'm a first time overseas masquerader and I don't have a sense about what I should bring with me vs. expect to get there. Body glitter? earrings? Tank top for monday? anyone know?
Anon, i not too sure anybody depends heavily on the goody bag nuh. To me the goody bag is more of a 'aye aye, look wha dey give meh!' after I have already bought everything i know i will need. Usually what you get is a sample package of stuff anyway (sunscreen ,shampoo) so your best bet is to organize yourself before hand. I buy my own glitter to add to the one or 2 packs they give me. They give you a bottle of nail polish (that i doh usually use on the day). Definitely bring your tank top for Monday because from all reports, ain't none ah dat in nobody Tribe bag. All you guaranteed to get is a bag. I am not even sure which sections getting earrings etc but I plan to buy my own anyway because last year the ones they gave me did not match really and i found they looked so off after the fact. i now realize i told you nothing definite here...lol let somebody else answer yes.
By the way I laughing at the whole he say she say who tell meh and nobody will really know til the band line up on monday and the flag bearer and dem put up dey flags. But like most people, i doh want to be based in the back either, and if fireman in the front i doh want dem to say 'jamette take a back because you reddish too'. So i hope and pray that we all end up in the damn middle because i ain't able

Girlllll that is 2 and 3 months salary for some. While I want to be in front, I doh want to be too infront if you catch my drift. My people all over the place this year, Fireman, bats, warrior spirit. Put me in the middle so everybody could pass and check me and I could check everybody equally. In a perfect world tribe will recalculate and put me exactly where i wish and exactly where you wish.

Oh gosh $3000TT is really some people monthly salary? Wow that's $500US/month and $6000US per year. That's freaking nuts they playing mas!!!! Lawd ah go never complain that mas too expensive again with my salary.

Study all the stragglers HD going to pick up being last. I remember one year in poison having to literally jostle ppl because dat truck and de groupies take over town, and I pay to be in the band and pay to be by the truck eh. This is the reason i locking off yellow devils this year too...ridiculous. I was miserable.

Mr. HD himself not in the last section...almost last, but not quite (that awful Sahara sunset costume is last) With IP it doh really matter.
I was in IP's Pride last year, second to last section, and I think i had a blast :-)
this year I'm in sirocco winds, sort of in the middle somewhere...gonna have be a blast either ways :-)
But i do feel your pain Saucy..if i signed up with a section expecting it to be in front, i would want to be in front DAMN IT!!!
Sahara Sunset is not so bad, why don't you likle it? I like the Frontline whole piece a lot but to me the headpiece looks like a feather duster though I see why they would want the shape.. just did not like the headpiece but the rest of costume to me is cute.
well then saucy, play in cow mas where the costume looks "udderly" ridiculous and you will be closer to the front, no costume could look so stupid. You just sour that for once you may not get your own way, or you are trying to make tribes bend their rules to suit you. IP all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow - Sista Jamette, Thank you ;D I really thought I was steppin out there with my first post ever; but it t'was all in fun. You never know how pple will take things sometimes. I've been on for the ride with you guys since August (Thanks to TriniPrincess) but - like a true true Trini, I only got my ish together LAST WEEK! I'm working down my checklist and flying out on the 6th! Hitting as many parties b4 my birthday on the 15th and heading back home March 6th.
And Sista Saucy I commend you on being such a gentle and fair moderator. I'll share too that I've been an avid reader not only bcse of your wit, humour, class and all around on-point-ed-ness; but bcse everyone on here just seems so damned cool!

Saharah sunset costume, why don't i like it.
The frontline is a strapless two-pice (i think) with the belt as a one-piece that joining up to the neck-piece. I don't like it, and i examined it all how trying to figure it out too.
the back-line: i absolutely abhore that head-piece (and the half-one for le soleil brule as well). the bikini itself is not too bad, but somehow i just didn't like it.
and the male costume: good Lord what were they thinking?

anon, how much I love myself is really no one's concern; is my self love bothering you in some way? Is it affecting the quality of your life? I could never fathom why other people get bothered is someone likes themselves, we should all like and love ourselves. A healthy dose of self esteem does wonders; at the end of the day you would be less stressed about what others choose to do/say and be able to have a fulfilling life and enjoy the world to your own standard of satisfaction.
As I said before, whatever I choose to write about on my blog is really coming from what I feel. It has nothing to do with "bullying" surely you are nor inferring that I have some power over TRIBE that they would change the line up of their section JUST to please me?
If I were "bullying", as you say, then my costume would have been cheaper and I would have gotten Monday wear since those are two issues, among others, which I wrote about and my feelings concerning both the high prices and lack of Monday wear being provided. AND the costume price did not go down nor are we getting Monday wear.
