A funny thing happened in the nail shop!

So there I was last night looking at a movie when I get a call from New York from one of the “bloggers” who I have yet to meet in person. The first time she contacted me last year was to get help registering in Island People and we have remained in contact ever since. She was calling to ask me how come she does not know about the “green string”. While I am trying to explain to her what the whole concept is, since she has not read the blog for the week, Ms. Blogger starts telling me that she is at the nail shop right then and overheard another customer speaking about playing mas, eventually they start talking about which band each of them is playing with and the other lady asks her if she reads this blog and will be wearing the green string in Trinidad?

My girl was chatting with none other than “tacariguagirl” who will be playing mas with Brian Mc Farlane. Suffice to say the Ms. blogger wanted to get her “green string” to wear on the plane as she will be arriving in Trinidad on Saturday and was quite concerned that she was unaware of the whole “green string” idea to begin with!

I think it is awesome that two random strangers could “meet” in a nail shop because of the green string! Thanks to dougla_1 for this cool idea of the “love inclusive” string. I am hoping to be sporting my green string from this weekend and will be looking at the left hand of everyone I see from next week. If this accidental meeting could happen in a nail shop in New York think of how many other meetings can and will take place in Trinidad!

See, random things like that just make life that much sweeter!! I know for sure this green string mantra is going to be HUGE among us bloggers. I'm sure it would probably last beyond carnival. Who knows, I just might spot another Floridian Trini blogger!!! :D

tiffany I going and swing by there today, will let you know.

Jamette you remember a arts and craft class where wwe learn to make them bracelets with the embrodiery floss? I feel i might do that if i remember how to do it!
it go be sturdier than the yarn alone.

Trinidad Carnival Diary said...

But how everybody seeing my pic and allyuh doh know what I look like? LOL.

Diva I guess you can use embroidery floss as well, for one it is thinner so it will look neater but I have no idea what bracelet you talking about!

buublenut said...

This is great to hear!!! Saucy your blogg is famous - my other "non-trini" friend that is reaching with me I went to tell her about your blogg months ago and she was like - oh yes saucy's blogg, it real shocked me you know :)

I got green yarn so I good to go - I think I am going to make into a thin braclet like Jumbie talking about (thought you were dropping the word Carnival from your name girl) I well remember how to make them.

I leave on Tuesday!!! I can't wait anymore!!!

Anonymous said...

I couldn't manage to find yarn, but I was digging through my bathroom storage cupboard and came across some green elastic ponytail holders. I think the shade is close enough, so that's what I will be sporting.

Anonymous said...

She say she dropping the name Diva and keeping the carnival and the jumbie.

And look what you asking me...we had a crafts class? i think i know the kinda bracelet you talking about though but how yuh's make dem tings? I was taught how to do that? I think i missing part of my life yes.

I want to get the yarn but really i trying to stay away from stores til next week. I keep buying things! So green yarn bracelet not seeing me til next weekend.

caisoqueen said...

i remember those bracelets dat jumbie talking about, but i forget how to make it. I going to get my yarn dis weekend.

buublenut said...

Ok lets see if I can manage a quick lesson on making them LOL

Quickest way get four piece of yarn and tie them together (the length should be from your elbow to the tip of your finger. To make the knots you would start with the string on the far left (lets call it sting A) and tie it first around the string directly next to it (string B) When making the knot you cross string A over and then under B like as in a shape of a number 4 then move on to tie A around string C then D so sting A is now at the end (so it B,C,D,A) now tie B with C, D then A etc. and just keep going until you done the bracelet :) not sure if that makes sense to anyone. We use to call them friendship bracelets growing up so if you have made them before maybe my instructions will trigger that part of the brain that storing the info.

Bring all your string on Sunday to the lime and I teaching a crash course :)

Thanks you for the props, Saucy. I am truly humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to this simple idea. But really and truly it is not about me. It is about us. "Love Inclusive" is a universal appeal and we all need that so much :D.

And, another thank you Saucy dahlin, for presenting the idea in such an appealing and democratic way, and just letting the people decide. And, so we have!!!

I got my string this morning, just two blocks from were I work in Midtown Manhattan!!! Yeah!!! As close to "kermit green" (and the colour of your blog green) I could match. I bought extra to give folks when I arrive in Trinidad (but I am seriously begging some of allyuh to try and find it, and don't wait for my offer.) The string/yarn I got is DMC colour 906, cotton ($.50) for each (the packaging is how you normally see shoe laces, and one "pack" could last for about three changes. You still have to double or triple the twine to make in look like the kabblah picture Saucy posted.)

I am just getting excited, but I am trying to contain myself, because I still have to do some work in the office today. But the hours are chipping away fast, and soon, tomorrow, AH REACH!!!

I am looking forward to meeting all or y'all. Bless and safe travels everyone. For all who in Trindad, take a wine for me!!! LoL.

Bubblenut, nice tip!!! (I was writing when you posted your comment).
