Baje International launched their new
website yesterday evening. Interested masqueraders can
view costumes as well as register online; the registration process is not instantaneous however. The procedure is you fill in all the information, then receive a confirmation email and await a call from someone from the mas camp to verify all your information. I hope by the time the call is returned the section you registered for is not sold out!!
From the costumes available I really like Storms of Africa, the red and black combination stands out amongst a sea of pastels and I am loving the headpiece. Second choice would be, for me, The Lost Tribe as I love the colours and headpiece on that one too. I just wish they had the option to view the costumes much larger than that tiny window view. The use of jewelry instead of the standard neck piece is a nice departure from the other costumes. I only have one criticism and it is that some of the bras look as if they offer no support for ladies larger than a B cup!
STORMS OF AFRICA THE LOST TRIBE Is it just me or do the costumes all have that "Made in China/Neckelmann's" vibe going on? Seriously, this is not bashing Baje but all the costumes have that "look", you know where the bra and waist band is decorated with every inch covered in patterned sequins and the skimpy beads fall in a certain way; even the headpieces look as if they came as part of the package. Nevertheless it works for them, China made costumes or not, and I wish them all the success for Crop Over.

saucy like baje get the link to the same people in China who make costumes for IP LMAO.Lost Tribe headpice looking like Jewel of the Nile and the same sequin bra was used for Goddess.
baje following island people for true down to the story about the lost tribe showing where each section is positioned in the band just like island people does. the costumes look ok I too can see it look made in china/taiwan/india
hi bajan sister...who the hell r ya lol. anyway saucy i was saying the same damm thing bout baje costume, what the hell is up with those cheap necklaces stupse.. secondly the girls breast are completly out of the bras. the only section i like was the lost tribe section but after looking at it again it started to look too confused.
the website was interesting.
I like the "roots" like drum beats and serious "minshal" like narrator explaining each section and trying to paint a serious picture about the inspiration for the band and how each section is weaved into it...
BUUUUUT then I got lost in the goofy smiles on the models and the frilly and bright pretty mas costumes WHICH are supposed to represent such a dark and stark period as the Transatlantic Slave Passage.
was a bit of a mix match. I did think the lost tribe was pretty cute.
Is that what the band is about JJ omg I totally did not read all that :D
oh yeah? well i guess that's what happens when you got a Trevor Wallace-type theme wearing a Sonia Mack two-piece. :D
Man I went straight to costume pics, I did not even bother to read the write up accompanying each section.. I mean really all I wanted to see was headpiece, bra and belt haha!
Why the need for the story though, especially when costumes look nothing like their names; they are nice but way too much importance is being placed on not calling a spade a spade :P
I think Baje international did a very nice job with their presentations. The costumes are nice and at least its a good quality vs having some a cheap hot glue Trini bead less and feather less headpieces with a very high overprice tag. Trinidad band leaders spend all their money on hype and expensive photo shoots instead of investing it into providing a top quality costumes.
That mermaid model somebody need to feed that poor child. Nice to see they have some fresh new models and faces. Not like the same ten magga recyleable Trinidad carnival models that they always use year to year and from band to band.
and their sizing are just like IP..samll,medium,etc
china made costumes don't mean good quality, dem bras looking cheap & d 3 string o beads lookin cheap baje better hope dem costumes hold up dis year last year was a hot mess.Prices too expensive for 1 day cropover ain't trini wha yuh getting 4 $385.00? if bim had more bands i sure d same models will me seen ovah an ovah.
saucy well to report about baje registration yesterday...first thing first i didnt even know why i went, i guess i was simply curious. the location was horrible the building felt as though i was in a container. so u r paying more money but they aint trying to make ppl comfortable. no damm ac, 5 chair and 2-4 windows that were not even making a differnce. then the 500 women that are clearly baje faithfulls seemed as if their money was burning their pockets. saucy they signed up like crazy just to secure their spots. one friend of mine signed up for 8 other people. the costumes did not look as good as they did online, the lost tribe section was so dull and confused in person, the mermaid was just not cutting it. the only two that were ok were storm of africa and the gold section with the hanging jewels. the other were simply cheap and tacky.
on the otherhand powerx4 is being totally ridiculous, i need to find out how i can get on that damm committee stupse, they have pushed back their lunch until june23 just because their booklets aint ready. some ppl just dont have any business sense. i am sure baje will be sold out by then.
UM............Saucy doesnt Big Mike fr Legacy do some costume for Crop Over as well???
Legacy brings a band Power x 4 for Crop Over.
Bajangal: seems like you had a great time at the launch..lol. Well being a true bajan at heart, the lil rain kept me away but I was surprised to see that the site was up so soon; usually it would have been another week. the costumes look aiight...nuthin to really shout about.
With regards to Power X 4 you would think that after doing this so many times they would be on the ball....I guess their excuse would be linked to CWC 2007.
Afro Chic: Pwer X 4 is a Bajan band, Big Mike "assists" in the costume design and production. I use the word assists loosely because there is a clear difference in terms of creativity between Legacy's production and Power X 4's
Baje costumes look shitey, especially in person. Power by four's look alot better, have to see them in person and baje is very very discriminative with who they want in their band, whether it be class , appearance, there is discrimination i know for a FACT. Baje would never get my money, EVER
