Non TLC Registration Information...

Well, I was checking TRIBE's website and saw that information on NON-TLC registration, which takes place tomorrow, has been updated:

Open Registration (Non-TLC Holder/New Masqueraders)

Date: Wed. 20th August 2008
Time: 5:30pm to 9:30pm
Place : Online ONLY (NO REGISTRATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE BAND HOUSE)
These are the sections still open for registration as per the website, note Bird of Paradise Frontline is sold out:

Now, I do not know the decision for having registration ONLINE only, but that severely limits the number of masqueraders that will be able to get to register as not everyone has access to a computer, internet service or even a credit card for payment.

Local masqueraders, especially those planning to show up early at whatever venue they thought registration was going to be held at,now have to fight up with overseas masqueraders for the few remaining spots. I predict MANY pissed off people tomorrow, I know if it were me I would be mad as hell that I had to register online since anything can happen, nothing is as sure as securing a place in line and being one of the first ones to register in person.

With EVERYONE now forced to register online I predict the band will be sold out tomorrow, mark my words! Potential masqueraders had better have a back up BAND instead of a back up costume....at least they are options to register without all the hassle.... Island People, Spice, Kaotic, Evolution, D Krewe and Elements ....................

And so the registration drama continues!

Where this might cause problems for non-TLC holders, this is a truly wise move for TRIBE staff. (Some of) These are the same ones who have circulated angry e-mails and posts venting about how hurt they are, and how the band was sold out since launch night, and how unfair TRIBE policies are regarding loyalty-recognition. (Some of) These were responsible for waves of panic rippling among TRIBE hopefuls that only certain pre-selected favoured ones would be able to play this year. Imagine bringing this same volatile group together and giving them bad news in person... I say that TRIBE saved themselves some major headache.

I just hope that this information is circulated to all interested parties, so that no one goes to the camp or to the hotel.

cb, good points; I was thinking the same thing.
Good luck to ALL the new masqueraders tomorrow! :)

CB ... I agree with you to some extent, but personally, I also have to state that some of the panic came from some Tribe committee members themselves. I was personally told by a committee member - before registration - that Tribe will sell out before TLC registration ends - and that even many TLC holders would not get in. I wouldn't blame some non TLC holders alone for the panic, cause it came from all angles - with many TLC holders bitchin on the FB group that sections were sold out at pre-registration. Everyone perpetuated the hysteria and panic - it came from all sides.

I think online registration is a smart move on Tribe's part, if they know that they only have a certain number of costumes in each section left. They avoid the face to face stuff. I however, feel for those who may not have credit cards are unable to register. I know many people who make a personal decision to avoid credit cards in an effort to be financially responsible. If only they were able to use their debit cards for credit purchases, like I am able to here.

Bird of paradise, Blue Tanager and Golden Dove aren't that bad, would be my choices (in that order) if I were trying to get into TRIBE tomorrow!

Good points cb...
Anybody knows what happened to Flamingo?

Goddess, I think Flamingo was pulled and the spaces allocated to other sections cause the response to it was kinda poor...Maybe Tribe could do the same thing if any sections are left tomorrow. That would definitely make some people happy...then again it would make some others very angry...

wierd how flamingo just disappeared! Though it was definitly the weakest of the 16. Remember Wednesday isn't the last chance to register... Tribe UK are taking registrations this Saturday!

innerouterdivapon is right. Flamingo became "extinct" due to a poor response, and in an effort to increase the quota for other sections. It's not the worst pink section I have seen from TRIBE though **cough**Titania**cough** but they did what they needed to do to appease the masses, and their partners.
However, like Sauce mentioned, I don't think there will be anything left after tomorrow to shuffle around to other sections. That decision could have been made before registration begain, because it wouldn't have interrupted the other phases of "de marse" (lol) like (overseas and local) production.

At least the UK registration gives some hope to UK masqueraders.

TRIBE going for the sell-out.

Who says that only credit cards can be used to purchase online? I made a downpayment on my costume last week with my debit card. I would think it silly for them not accept debit cards....

innerouterdivaPON said...

Shari, that is true, but remember in Trinidad unlike the US, MOST bank cards cannot be used as debit cards. First Citizen's Bank cards don't even have a Visa/Mastercard logo on them so there's no way to use them as debit cards. I remember registering with my Bank of America debit card every time I played mas, but for most Trinidadians, a credit card is the only means to make any kind of online payment.

DC Chica said...

Yes Shari - people in Trini can't use their debit cards....people in here in the US however, can. Its the poeple back home I was talking about.

Shari said...

Ohh okay. I wasn't aware of situatoin with debit cards for Trini locals....:-)

I went and registered with cash even though i have a credit card, Only because paying approx $50 more for my Costume was less appealing that going an lime at cascadia and spend it on drinks.
Anyhow I feel really bad for the 1st time TRIBEers without credit cards.. I do really feel its a bit unfortunate that they made this decision. As i know a few persons who are affected by it.

This is too funnny!

Tribe could have 10 costumes left, or 1000 left and no one will ever know.

Good luck to all!
