All quiet on the mas front!

Post Carnival 2008 the gossip grapevines were hot with news that several new bands would be making a debut for Carnival 2009. Rumours of designers being kicked out of certain bands and founding members leaving to form a new element on the Carnival scene gave us lots of fodder for Carnival bacchanal. This year Kaotic, Elements and Spice made their foray into mas adding lots of excitement leading up to the band launch with media launches and sneak peek of costumes.

Carnival 2010 and nary a peep is being heard about ANY new bands! In fact the wait is on to see who survived Carnival 2009 to forge ahead again for Carnival 2010 in spite of losses. I know Spice, Island People and D Krewe have already announced themes for next year and word is that Trevor Wallace's 2010 presentation is "Fire and Ice".

A certain popular design duo are allegedly being snubbed by a certain big band, sources say they have been branded as "difficult" and "cost too much"; inspiration has to come from within, I suppose, but great designs do not come cheap! How this bodes for the costuming in a year when the Asian continent will be represented by several bands one can only wait and see. I for one am not looking forward to taking a step backward when it comes to costume design, my expectations are extremely high for 2010 as the costume is certainly no longer "complimentary!".

And in non mas related news, the LOWEST Carnival airfare scored so far :

MIA to POS on American Airlines, February 10th to February 17th $272.60US!!!!!

Which of the Asian Continent Costumes are you looking forward to seeing the most?
Island People's "Kuchela"
Spice's "Spice Route"
TRIBE's "Silk Road"

I still can't get over the whole concept of the costume being "complimentary". Hello, isn't Carnival about costume masquerade FIRST? Costumes shouldn't be a last thought. Otherwise if you want liquor and music, put on your swanky clothes and go to a fete.

I'm curious to see how IP's costumes will look -- not for nothing IP always look hot every year. But I'm still not going to play with them again next year. I'll admire from far.

Trini,

I think people should consider the good and the bad when it regards vendors. People complained about GHC and Cotinga, but no one complained about CC nor the other items that was made by the same vendor. Personally, I think that too much was left to the same vendor, how much can a few people quality control without MINOR mishaps? At least the costumes was wearable. My felling is its your responsibilty to notify the tribe of your concerns, hoepfully they would relay the message to the vendor, and the vendor can make necessary corrections. The end result was truly beautiful and majority of the masqueraders had a wonderful experience.

I played in IP and both of my costumes broke apart (Yes 2) and if I would play with IP again (somene please slap me if I do). I wouldnt want to see that section leader be penalized for malfunctions. I would just hope that the problems would be corrected.

Ms. Sexy....it seems as though the problem was not primarily about quality but more about interpersonal issues. Often difficult interpersonal situations can be the straw that breaks the camels back.
I agree with you that CC turned out nice.I was under the impression that this vendor was only responsible for the headpiece on that costume though. Is that true?

trini the designs for both Cotinga and GHC were sold to TRIBE.Then TRIBE distributed the actual production of the costume among several vendors.

The headpieces and tails for Cotinga were done by the designers as well as the headpieces for GHC and the Individual Costumes.

The designers were not responsible for the bra, belt, foot pieces etc.

Thanks Saucy

OK so before you start to make foolish comments and go off on a slander spree, the costume designs were SOLD to TRIBE and some of the production was retained (tails and headpieces), however at no time did i or my company place an order for the feathers that were used or the material used to make the costumes for GHC or SPANGLED COTINGA, so before you choose to point your finger at any one person it might do you well to investigate or ask a question, don't just give your mouth/finger liberty to dirty anyone's reputation.

Ok,well in the interest of clearing up the rumors and avoiding slander, why Tribe not having you guys back?

and i guess they called YOU and told YOU this right???????
quite frankly you seem to know alot i wish you luck with that!

oh an done more thing, the final decision on who we work with is always up to us, so never let it fly that any one band "don't want us" we choose and thus far there is no rift between us, issues yes but nothing that can't be worked out, and that is all YOU need to know at this point
