The Secret of Silk at Second Sighting

TRIBE mas camp unceremoniously opened their mas camp today at noon for costume viewing, it was great that this fact was not announced as when I arrived there were only a few people looking at costumes with more arriving later.

Ok, some things to note:

*Most sections come with two REGULAR headpiece options. The regular costumes come with the smaller headpieces not shown at the launch(with the exception of Threads of Morocco, Fire Silk and Silk of Rajasthan) and there is the option to upgrade to the bigger headpiece. At the mas camp the small headpieces are displayed on the top row of mannequin heads, and the larger headpieces to the bottom.

*click on all photos for large view

*There are no front line costumes on show at the mas camp.

*Most sections come with jewelery as displayed, Silk of Rajasthan has loads of bangles and lovely ear rings, while Osage also has some very nice jewelry.

*No prices are up on any of the costumes.

*There are no male costumes on display.

*I was informed that the website should be up tomorrow.

*Serica was not on show when I arrived so I do not have close up photos of this section.

As for the costumes my initial sentiments still remain the same for the most part, (though I did like more than half of the sections even with my critical review) however I will say all sections look pretty under the lights and displayed at the mas camp. Most of the headpieces have lots of diamante and gems used as decoration, I don't think I saw any with generic braid!

I am really liking the small headpiece option for Habotai with the side sweep of feathers (ignoring the chop sticks) as well as the small headpiece option for Eri which is all white feathers and diamante. The choice of large and smaller headpiece I am sure will put the costumes within most people's budgets as well as caters to those who do not like having a large headpiece. Hopefully this will encourage masqueraders to wear their headpieces and not leave them at home as some do!

Mulberry and Habotai bras are both covered in silk fabric, a very nice detail which I wish was used on Charmeuse which is my number one pick after the mas camp viewing for a regular costume. If the bra was covered in silk with the four rows of diamante it would be another perfect costume for me. Inspite of the silk I still think the bras could use something extra, especially on the frontlines, some crystals embedded in the silk maybe? I would add that as an extra if I were playing frontline in those sections.

Charmeuse is gorgeous in person, I love the belt and the embellished pieces that attaches to the bra. It looks adjustable for different torso lengths. I also like the use of fabric on the headpiece and belt. Mulberry has some rich looking oriental jewelry work on the belt and headpiece, my favourite part of that costume. Mystery of Loulan is also lovely in person, not as much colour as Charmeuse though, but I like the chunky stones used on the belt as well as that pop of turquoise on the headpiece.

Osage and Tyrian Purple both are pretty costumes, the orange in Osage is ORANGE not peach as some people thought after looking at the photographs. Silk of Rajasthan uses the bells found on Indian jewelry to decorate the headpiece, belt and bra so those in this section will be making the ching ka ching ching noise as well!

Overall the costumes look good in person, I still have my favorites and those that my opinion did not change on after seeing them up close. I am sure people can find more than one section to put down on their list of choices. So for those of you who cannot make it to the mas camp, take a look at the photos:

Sauce,

I saw them. Charmeuse is absolutely beautiful! When i was there most people were migrating over to that costume and everyone was in awe at the beauty of it. It looks so much richer in person and the purle and blue mingle so nicely together. Everyone was concerned about the back piece but we took a look at it is nicely done as the big circles continue and droop in the back.

The two headpiece option for this are cute as well, however the bigger one just adds so much to the beauty.

Loulan looked great in person as well. I'm sure lots of people will have a hard time choosing between that at Charmeuse as i too was one of them.

A lot of the costumes look fabulous, i also absolutely loved the hand work on the headpieces for Xi ling shi, they are very very well done and are beautiful.

Well i'll leave the rest for the others to see...!!!!

Thanks Saucy!!!!!!!!!!! I've been checking ALL day to see if the website was up...good to see that there will be jewelery with costumes...I haven't played in years and didn't realize that some sections included them with the costumes...

Slightly confused about Osage.

Are there 4 diff head pieces? The band launch pic i see online looks like there are 2 different large head pieces not including the frontline, plus now a smaller option? I'm just wondering cause I quite like the more Lady-of-Lake styled one.

Anyways. Thanks for the pics. The costumes look a lot more promising ... but the nasty ones still look nasty!!!

RWB that big Cotinga looking HP for Osage IS the FL!!! In the bookelt the collar option is listed as "individual".

Loving Charmeuse, but confused about Krissiegirl's comment... I can't tell from the pics, but what did they do with the design for the back of the belt? It looks like cloth in the front and nothing in the back... Also, was she saying that there are two headpiece options for Charmeuse? I think I only saw one in the pics...

Saucy, thanks so much for the pics! It's a big help for those of us who aren't there...

Really? So frontline is just a headpiece now?!

Disappointed :-(

Ta anyways.

Krissiegirl said...

Hi songbird, yes there are two headpiece options, a small one that i guess will be standard with the costume and then the option for the one that was shown at the launch. The back of the back piece is similar to the front with the exception of the cloth in the front. there is no cloth hanging down, si on ther words...yuh bum bum don't have much covering it. The larger of the two headpieces has a long piece of cloth that goes to the ground which covers the but and i like that!

Saucy, you should do a new poll after a week of the site and mas camp opening and see if people changed their minds on which sections are their favs.

I know for a fact that a lot of my friends will be upset at the fact that Osage does not come with the collar.

Krissiegirl said...

And sauce is still uploading pcs so hopefully you will see the smaller headpiece option for Charmeuse.

SongBird said...

Thanks for the info Krissiegirl... So the smaller headpiece doesn't have the cloth hanging? Then let's hope that if you get that option, they could sponsor you a little cloth to cover yuh backside!! Lol.

I should think they would be disappointed CarnivalDivas.

I sent an email to my friend earlier referring to Osage (b4 I saw these pics) and my exact words were
"I quite like the one in the middle ... surely that could not be a frontline but I'm not sure"

It just looks like an option to the regular costume. The "individual" is FL standard. So now I'm thinking that the very few costumes that I like are probably FLs that dont look like FLs.

GRRRRRRRRR!

Saucy is this @ Cascadia or the bandhouse on Rosalino?

Marlie said...

Jennifer, this is on Rosalino. I just been to the mas camp myself and the costumes are really a delight in person but Charmeuse...yummy, lol...also, Osage really is more orange in person that in the online pics where it seemed a little peach, and the Zari is a stunning green - i'm so disappointed that there is nothing special going for it, almost a waste of a beautiful colour...also the yellow one (li xing something, lol) the head piece is gerogeous in person, the yellow is really bright and beautiful...

All the photos are uploaded and you can see the small Charmeuse headpiece!

Ok, I too am majorly confused about Osage. Based on the previous pics, I thought the frontline costume was the one with the collar, and that there were three head piece options for the backline.

If the wider fuller head-piece is the frontline that would really be dissappointing! That would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyy toooo plain to be a frontline costume.

I still really want to know the prices, as it is beginning to look to me that it is the consumer that will lose as opposed to benefit from these smaller headpiece options. For e.g. last year, you seemed to get a lot more bang for your buck, with your backline costume. The "larger" head piece options, look like the standard size of the headpieces last year : (.

Mind change now

Xi Ling Chi, Charmeuse and Mulberry all the way.

Loulan not doing it for me :(

Loulan is lovely I think, but WAY too similar to my Bird of Paradise costume from this year. Still need to see a proper shot from the back of Charmeuse to determine if it's my front runner. So far, Tyrian Purple and Mulberry have got me :o)

Carnival Divaz said...

Nah, Nah, Nah. Everyone that was running down Loulan stay there, the Bush Babes dont want ya'll. LOL

MULBERRY ALL THE WAY.

Went to the mascamp today. Charmeuse is stunning! The colours and chain-work are lovely. This would be my first choice for a backline costume (with the bigger headpiece). The bra however is missing beading!! I'm not sure why more was not done to the bra. If this bra were better decorated this costume would be the clear winner out of the lot.

The red and gold was not bad in person (Senica I think). But the white sash is still baffling.

The pink is just... ummm... horrible. The bra looks soooo incomplete. The bizzare chopsticks sticking out at all angles, horrid.

Something about the yellow and blue is very striking although I dislike yellow for mas. But this costume really is beautiful close up, especially the headpiece.

Silver Mist 2 is just that- Silver Mist 2. I cannot understand why grey is even considered for costumes. This would have been a beautiful costume if the grey were left out.

Loulan backline is cute but nothing compared to the FL!

Osage is nice but nothing special in my opinion.

I was surprised by Threads of Morocco. The belt is missing something and I am not commenting on the skimpiness. The front of the belt is gold hanging that looks like tinsel. It is short and bushy giving the appearance of an ungroomed.... The person viewing with me shared this opinion. The bra however is lovely! Rich gold colour.

All in all, a good showing. The mascamp was not crowded at all. I think I'll go again tomorrow!
