Not One Of The Chosen ?

Dear Sauce

It seems as if the mas band Tribe is really an all-inclusive band catering to a select few.

Now don't get me wrong I am a masquerader who has played mas with this band for the past 3 years.

However, I must tell you that I am really ANGRY, when I saw your page this morning and saw the pictures of Mystery of Loulan. You see Sauce, this was my first pick and I fell in love with the costume since I saw it at the launch, subsequently it was said that this costume was an INDIVIDUAL, I even called the camp where the young lady who answered the phone informed me that individual means ONE.

Imagine my surprise to read this good morning that individual is a word Tribe manufactured to mean PREMIUM, I mean since when did Tribe become Oxford scholars who invented new words to suit their needs?

Who were the chosen ones that were privileged enough to get selected for this costume? And why was this information not released to the general public?

Now I am happy to say that I am a frontliner for the section Zari and my costume is gorgeous even though the wire bra will take a little getting used to. But the unfairness of it all seems a bit much, after all this is a carnival band where the priority of the band leaders was supposed to be that you got the section that you wanted and that you are guaranteed two days of fun and revellery in the sun, not a whose who and a selection committee for a lucky few.

Upset Masquerader.

Oh wow...that is unfortunate!

Shame on Tribe for hiding the ball on this one. I remember discussions about this on Saucy blog since the launch, I was aware that "individual" meant "premium".

I hope you enjoy your mas regardless!

I have to agree with the Masquerader on this one. Individual means one. If its Premium, just say so, and only say so. I remember I asked about this and was told that it was Individual.

No need for smoke and mirrors.

This has Happened Before I inquired about a Individual (last year) was told there was Only One and by the Time carnival Rolled around I observed 3 carbon copies.

So in the Words of Justin timberlake..

"Cry Me a River"

So you didnt Get the costume you Originally Wanted...because of whatever Misunderstanding/communication/misinterpretation *glitch*..

Build a bridge and get over it..It have Next Year..

Trinibears just because its happened before, doesnt make it right. And if noe one complains, it will happen again.

There's no need to lie to your customers, if there are more than one, just say there's only a few available. That way, people like this masquerader wont get upset when he/she sees a few of the costumers palancing on the road Monday and Tuesday.

I'm a stickler for costumer service, its why I like Tribe. So I hold them to the same standards I hold any other company I give my money to.

why does everything have to be a huge conspiracy theory? maybe the person the reveller spoke to actually gave them the wrong information. it is possible people. not every incident needs to be turned into a huge "transgression" on the part of the band. lawd. maybe if the masquerader had attempted to get in contact with the designer themselves, they would have gotten the correct info. This is not to say it's the fault of the masquerader but lawd folks, everything isn't an intentional issue. sometimes it's as simple as misinformation...

DC Chica> I wasn't Trying to justify what happened...Maybe i should have explained myself better. But Fortunately "Ms Hershey" did a better job of it...
The bottom Line Is "Sh*t happens" It could Be any one of a million things that Contributed to That situation and my previous experience..

I learned in the Process section leaders may make accommodations for "Their people" Can We Blame them? NO! we cant Its their section And their People. If i was a Section Leader i would Make accommodations For My People also... And if YOU are one you would Do the Same.

SO WHAT you Don't get that "Special" previlidge to get a Super-ultra-individual-premium-WTF-ever Costume. It have other costumes, Other sections and For that matter other bands....

Oh God allyuh...cool it now nuh....it have ppl who eh get in the band at all...unfortunate masquerader still get in FL Zari..if you love Zari...call that George and move on...next year if yuh still vex take yuh money elsewhere...geeze...

Ok, I remember before registration began that it was said that there was backline, frontline and premium frontline. And if memory serves me correct all of that was listed here on this blog. And Saucy even gave a ballpark breakdown of the price. At the end of the day, MOL is a private section and the designer can have whomever she wants in her "premium FL" or individual as you call it. And I also believe for the most part, all those that are registered in the "premium" spoke with the section leader directly as to how they even became registered. Correct me if I worng Saucy.

If it were me and I wanted this costume so badly, as stated by someone earlier I would've gotten in contact with the section leader directly and not TRIBE mas camp. The girls that answer the phones are like you and I who sometimes have incorrect information. You can't blame the band for you not getting the correct information. At the end of the day its up to you to get what you want.

Now you know what to do for the coming years when you want something done right. Talk to the designer directly and not any second hand person. Just my two cents.

dats wat happens wen people (masquerader) make others (tribe) feel that they are d only option. u, the masquerader r creating ur own monster, then complaining about it!

according to meh mother "T"...ah could shake yuh foot. yuh preach.

I completely agree with Trinibears and Jo-Ann. I do recall though that the option was 'premium' and not an individual

I agree totally with T. EVERY SINGLE year everyone complains about some shyt wid some band (TRIBE/ISLAND PEOPLE) an how they unfair and how they only want this an only want thatJ= kinda people. If allyuh makin TRIBE believe they are the beginning and the end with carnival they will do WHATEVER THEY PLEASE! Check wha Island People hada do this year to gain back their masqueraders. They had to pay through their NOSE!!! Take a stand then maybe you wont have to complain. Enough complaints will get some kinda change. With a prayer and some fingers crossed. At the end of the day, I dont even think its that serious but to each his (or her) own.

Under everything...you know what killing me...why this person feels that because it had ONE she was entitled to have it ? Zari FL had the same 'selection' process and she qualified to be there so just because she eh get her first choice way she want to blast Tribe ?Who is sheeeee ???If she loved the premium so much why she did not 'settle' and enquire about the regular FL? Why she eh pelt out her money and do her own 'individual'? Please just a next person who just want to say they in ting.STEUPS.Everybody whp reads this blog was clear on the distinction between the costumes.

Lady said...

My view exactly, take a stance we create monsters and then complain. Why do we make one band feel that they are better than others to the point where they can do what they want. steuppsss.
I agree with 'dccarnivalbaby' look at IP I was adamant that they not getting my money again and I guess alot of other people also have the same feelings. Stand up for your rights it hurting meh not to be playing but ah standing up against the shit.

Lady, I dont want to seem like a hypocrite or anything so let me clear this up. I am DEFINITELY playing with IP this year in BINDI FRONTLINE. I really do mean what I said but that was for those who had a problem with the bands. I never had ANY problems with IP and if I did I wouldn't have a problem changing to another band (so longst as I loved the costume). As for now, if it ain't broke there is nothing for me to fix.

I am aware that the majority of T'dad Carnival Diary fans are Tribe supporters, but I have my two cents to add. Since registration, I have been upset. I hope management reads these blogs. From registration to collection, I wondering why I paying $4000 to play in a BL costume, that I don't like. To make things worse, while waiting to collect the “ugly costume”, a young lady sitting next to me, boasting about ‘she connections’, and how she got in the section of her choice! I playing with Tribe from inception, and have a TLC card, but cannot get in a section of choice. Even though I take the pressure to reach Cascadia early morning on the first day of registration, and left in the night. What is the value of a TLC card? I had to register in one section, my fianc√© in a next one, my friend in another. Then go through the process of selling these costumes and buying others, for us to be together. All this pressure to play mas? Like I begging! When I spending my hard-earned money, I want to feel that these people want my business. Is not "take what you get, special services to a selected few. ‘ I special and my money good. Like some of you say, “we create the monster.”
I see some of you talk about customer service, I don’t feel like I got any from Tribe. IP really step-up so far, this year. I registered 2 friends from abroad, and collected for them, and cannot believe the courtesies I was extended. All goes well on the road, I playing with them next year. Like some of you say, “we create the monster.” Everybody vex because the fellar was selling his costume for $5000. Next year, I registering with Tribe, selling to the highest offer, and going to
IP, Hart, or Spice. When I used to play with Sonya Mack in Poison, I could close my eyes, and know I getting a nice costume, well fitting, and if I don’t like something, I could say so. That is service for your money!

"From registration to collection, I wondering why I paying $4000 to play in a BL costume, that I don't like." ??????
UMMMM thats the reason right there why these bands can do what they want cause allyuh make it so!! nobody hold a gun to your head and force you to buy the "ugly costume"... why you just didnt take your hard earned cash to ANOTHER band where u would have gotten a "nicer" costume and less pressure ehh?? oh wait ah forget you want to pay for the EXPERIENCE my bad....

I have to agree with this Masquerader and all the comments about taking a stand. We made Tribe and every other band so we can break them. Demand quality and value. We Trinis make noise every Monday and by Tuesday we going along same ole same ole.

You are upset but what you going to do...play with the chosen band again or make a stand. I have played mas for all of my adult life and when Tribe came out I joined the band wagon but after 2 years with them I had enough. The first year I wrote them a letter about their shortcomings and I registered the second year thinking they would improve. It gets worst and worst. They pay less for the costume and charge more. They play on the english language. They say they on the road till the sun set but that, in Tribe jargon, means you will stand up outside Neal and Massy Motors by Richmond St. from 4pm till 6:30pm when the sun set.

ms. hershey said...

STEUPS... so you playing in a section you don't like and YOU made the choice to pay for said "ugly" costume and you're beefin with Tribe? WTH am i really seein?! if YOU decided to spend YOUR money on a costume you DID NOT like... whose fault is that exactly?? how dat become Tribe or any other bands' problem?! SERIOUSLY?! stop the foolishness nah man. steups!

HQ said...

I have to agree with Ms Hershey on that one. The first mistake made was putting down a deposit on a costume you did not care for. I don't care about the comments on this blog- I love my section and I know I will shine on the road. I have felt that way about every single costume I have ever played mas in all my life: whether it was Trinidad, US, Canada, wherever!

You are setting yourself up for a poor experience if you already don't like your costume. I love Tribe, but if I didn't find a section that I liked, I would keep it moving. I have played with other bands before and I will live to play with other bands again!

Mazy said...

Ms. Hershey, I am well aware that I am the one who put the down payment on the “ugly costume”.
My point is just as the Upset Masquerader said, “ is it special privileges for a selected few?”
The beef I have with Tribe is, if a section is closed to TLC holders who spend a whole day registering, how can someone who does not have a TLC card get in a section of choice, which was closed on the first day? What choice was I given with my card?

Shellss said...

Ok..I'm not getting the jist of this...ppl are acting as though this is new....everybody does that.....if i have a business,,,my friends and family are coming FIRST.....i doh care who dont want to come after....that is just how it is...all over...not ONLY in mas!!!! Mazy you soooo wanted to play in TRIBE that you registered with an ugly section? Are you for real? Are you serious...this is ridiculous!!...I always saying...if allyuh dont like the band, their practices or ethical stance....pls....PLS.....go elsewhere!!! My word.....it is becoming redundant!!!

Shellss said...

Oh...and BTW...I also have a TLC card...and you know what???? I know of many people who didn't have one but registered before registration was open to the public. Similiar to you, my friends and I did NOT get into the section of our choice and you know what??? We cooly went to IP's Mas Camp and registered :) easy easy....no sweat...and definitely no skin off our noses....Tribe does not have a Monopoly darling...so utilize the freedom in which you have to spend your own money!

Lauren said...

This is quite a“hot” topic
“Tribe, TLC Cards, Special Registration for Special People”…… Well I wonder if all you know how the thing does work with Tribe? If you are not one of the people attending the Special Viewings and Private Registrations, all of you, TLC card and all….. way, way, way down the ladder with Tribe! This is the TRUTH, so who vex, vex. I know because I was privy to it already. They don’t care bout you!
Most of these ‘Special People’ have no cards. When registration open to cardholders for two days, all Tribe "Real People" are already registered, or have
special reservations. Ever notice that some people reaches Cascadia, hours before numbers sharing, get number 150-250 and sections closed already? How could this be? Tribe has 5000 odd masqueraders!
Who exactly Tribe talking about, when they say “our valued customers?” think about it. You are not the people that get the TRUE customer service, what you get, is an assembly line of cashiers at Casadia, waiting to take your money. How many of you will go to buy an outfit, dress, pants, shoes, even make-up, for a fraction of what you pay for a costume, and NOT try-it on? Nobody! All you know how many bands allow their masqueraders to try-on bras, belts, even under-wear, before registering?
Some of you say “nothing wrong with that, friends and family first in business.” Some say they making accommodations for “their people” My question is, if all of you who playing with them, some for years, are not considered to be “their people” then why are you in “their” band? Most businesses all over the world are loyal to their customers, and if Tribe can’t make some accommodations for their loyal masqueraders with special needs, they simply don’t care about you.
For all who upset, spend your money elsewhere. Go where you can be treated like special people, who is not at the bottom of the barrel to the Ackin clan. All of you created this jumbie… that come back to frighten some of you. BTW…kudos to Shellss, and T. Mazy, it ain’t too late to get more than you paid for that “ugly”
costume.
You make them, you can break them!
